Methodist Panel: Pastor Violated Doctrine With Same-Sex Wedding

Rev. Frank Schaefer presided over son’s wedding to another man.

As expected, a Methodist Church panel on Monday found that the Rev. Frank Schaefer violated chuch doctrine by officiating his son’t same-sex wedding in 2007.  Just last month, dozens of Methodist ministers joined Schaefer in officiating another gay marriage.

The Morning-Call reports: “The trial will resume Tuesday morning, with jurors hearing more testimony and ultimately deciding whether Schaefer will face punishment. That could include a reprimand, a suspension, or a stripping of his ministry. Frank Schaefer embraced supporters and family after the verdict, with some saying, “We love you.” He declined to comment, saying he was not allowed to speak until the proceedings were over.”
