Meningitis Breaks Out in Princeton

Six cases confirmed.

Six Princeton students suffering from meningitis have recovered while a seventh student is being treated for infection from a meningoccal bacteria, which causes meningitis.

The state Department of Health announced an outbreak in May. Four cases involved studennts living in dorms.

“The student developed symptoms of the illness yesterday and went to the university’s McCosh Health Center,” university spokesman Martin Mbugua said this evening. “From there, he was taken to a local hospital early this morning.”

The university is currently awaiting test results that would confirm this new case as meningitis, and also the type of bacteria, Mbugua said. The results are expected this week, he said.
