PA: Probably Better Than You Thought at Math and Reading

National report card finds 4th and 8th graders above average (slightly).

The federal government released its report on educational attainment among public school students, and huzzah, it turns out Pennsylvania kids are above-average.

The numbers below, while above the nation’s average, also indicate a whole bunch of kids (56%-60%) who are below proficient.

That said, these scores also represent a significant improvement from a decade ago, when only 22% of fourth graders, and 21% of eighth graders were proficient in math, respectively.
