Hugh Douglas Pleads Not Guilty

The former Eagles defensive end chalks neck injuries up to rough sex

Hugh Douglas, the former Eagles defensive end charged with assault and strangulation, pleaded not guilty in a Hartford, Conn., court and told the judge that his then girlfriend’s neck injuries were due to rough sex.

“Whatever happens after this, we just hope that [the case] goes away quickly,” Douglas said after the hearing in his first public comments about the case. He declined to discuss the allegations and why he was in Hartford on the day of the alleged attack.

Douglas’s lawyer, Corey Brinson, accused the woman of giving conflicting statements since the September 22nd incident. “There’s a lot for the complainant to gain by making these allegations,” he said

Douglas worked as an ESPN analyst after retiring from the NFL in 2004. He is currently out on $50,000 bail, and the judge recently ordered his GPS monitoring device be removed. [AP]
