Christie’s Gay Marriage Stance Boosts Presidential Bid

Moderation is becoming all the rage.

Now that N.J. Gov. Chris Christie’s presidential ambitions are all but certain—why do you think he was so annoyingly prominent in those Stronger than the Storm ads?—the question is how his recent decision to pull his administration’s appeal from the gay marriage court case will bode for his currently embryonic presidential campaign?

CBS has some brief but sharp insight: “Now that he has called off his  appeal of the Supreme Court decision, he accomplished what he needs for his White House ambitions, trying to take a hot issue in many Republican primaries off the table.” In other words, the move burnishes Christie’s image as a moderate at a time when nearly everyone has finally started to hate extremist Republicans.
