Comcast Could Offer Netflix on Your TV

The Internet and television are closer to becoming the same thing.

Comcast is in talks with Netflix to begin offering the online service as an app available though the cable service, the Wall Street Journal reports. The move is something of a surprise since cable networks have seen Netflix as a rival for eyeballs and programming—shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards could easily have played on, say, Showtime—but: “That hasn’t stopped Netflix and U.S. operators from exploring partnerships where it makes sense. ”

The Hollywood Reporter adds: “Some pay TV firms also see Netflix as possible added leverage in retransmission consent and carriage fee disputes. During possible future network blackouts that deprive consumers in an operator’s territory of popular shows, companies could highlight that Netflix provides programming alternatives.”
