Gay Marriage in 10 Days

Path cleared for same-sex weddings in New Jersey.

A judge has refused to accept Chris Christie’s request that gay marriage ceremonies be delayed, following a recent ruling that allowed same-sex couples to be married in New Jersey.

The governor, who last year vetoed a gay marriage bill, argued that couples shouldn’t be permitted to marry until his appeal of the recent ruling makes its way through the courts. The same judge–Mary Jacobson–who handed down the original ruling was not sympathetic to the argument, paving the way for same-sex marriages to begin on October 21st. According to a recent poll, New Jerseyans agree 61-32 that gay marriage should be legal.
