The president will speak at New York’s Binghamton University and Pennsylvania’s Lackawanna College in Scranton. The president is promoting a plan for a new government rating system for colleges that would judge institutions on their tuition costs and perhaps be used to allocate federal financial aid.
Despite its “Lackaknowledge University” reputation, the junior college appears to fit Obama’s bill in certain respects. Tuition is $12,400 a year and 90% of the student body is on some sort of financial aid. [AP]
