Shore Man Charged with Killing Endangered Shore Hawks

Look, just because the bald eagle is off the PA endangered species list, doesn’t mean it’s open season on rare, beautiful, migratory birds of prey all over the tri-state area.

Robert Losasso, 68, of Somers Point, used a .22 caliber rifle and a .17 caliber pellet gun, both equipped with scopes, to kill four species of hawk, according to a complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney in New Jersey.

His neighbors also reported seeing 40 dead birds (or so) drop into their lawns over the past three years. In other words, to revisit our Hitchcok, this guy was either trying to pull a Norman Bates, or prevent a Tippy Hedren. [Inquirer]
