Tom Corbett Is America’s Best-Paid Governor

USA Today reports on a new survey from the Council of State Governments. Guess which state pays its governor the best?

Governors in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee do not accept a salary at all. Republican Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, a venture capitalist and former Gateway computer executive, returns all but $1 of his salary to the state treasury. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has the highest salary at $187,256, but he has voluntarily refused cost-of-living adjustments so his actual take-home pay is about $175,000.

Believe it or not, we have no jokes to make about this. Corbett’s not exactly the greatest governor in the land—certainly not if you judge by opinion polls—but he doesn’t choose his own salary: That’s set for him. And being CEO of a state this size should pay decently. Don’t worry, though, Governor! We’ll find some new reason to mock you, and soon!
