Buzzfeed has devised a back-of-the-envelope drunk driving responsibility index. Basically, it divides “How much do you drink?” by “How many fatal drinking-related car accidents have you gotten into?” The states that drink the most without crashing their cars and killing anyone are ranked the highest.
Pennsylvania is in the middle of the pack, but Jersey, for all its riding through mansions of glory in suicide machines, is ranked third in the nation, behind puritanical Massachusetts and wild, crazy, rural New Hampshire, which may not yet have legalized motor vehicle use.
Now, this survey may not even really measure how responsible a state’s drinkers are. It might just measure how good they are at drunk driving. At least that’s what a fair amount of Jersey boys out there might like to think.
