Temple-La Salle Tennis Match Turns Ugly

You know how people like to call Philadelphia “The City of Brotherly Love” because, you know, irony? Well, it appears that Philly can work its magic on the sport best known for using “love” as a score: The Temple News reports that last week’s tennis match between Temple University and LaSalle got really ugly—so much so the rivalry may be ended.

La Salle junior Chas Berenato reportedly threw his racquet against a fence; La Salle junior Joseph LaBate earned a point penalty after saying his Temple opponent, a Russian, “should be deported.”

“This is the first time we’ve faced a team that acted this way,” Temple coach Steve Mauro said. “We’re used to playing teams that are a little more respectful on the court, so we didn’t appreciate that.”
