Chris Christie Suddenly, Apparently Doesn’t Like Bullies (At Rutgers)

Yes, N.J. Gov. Chris Christie made himself famous via a series of YouTube videos where he yelled at and humiliated public school teachers and other constituents as loudly and embarassingly as possible—but, you know, he’s never thrown a basketball at anybody. After footage emerged showing Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice berating players, yelling slurs, and throwing basketballs at them. MyFoxPhilly reports:

“Gov. Christie saw the video today for the first time and he is obviously deeply disturbed by the conduct displayed and strongly condemns this behavior,” a statement issued by Christie’s press secretary Michael Drewniak read.

“It’s not the type of leadership we should be showing our young people and clearly there are questions about this behavior that need to be answered by the leaders at Rutgers University.”

Rice was fined and suspended for his behavior. Christie was awarded a keynote speaking slot at the Republican National Convention. The lesson learned here? Berating teachers is awesome; yelling at athletes is sad. (The other lesson, according to our own Liz Spikol? It’s time to fire Mike Rice.)
