Roxy Theater Asking for Help on Kickstarter to Open This Spring

The Roxy, on Sansom St, was rescued last fall by the Philadelphia Film Society, which promised to turn it into an indy, but not quite arthouse joint, like New Yorks’ Film Forum. The Roxy is still planning on opening this spring, but is seeking an addition $40,000 via Kickstarter to refurnish the lobby, unstickify the floors, add new screens and a sound system, among other upgrades. Broadly speaking, this is what you can look forward to:

PFS will operate the Roxy as a first-run theater, with an emphasis on independent films, many of which presently cannot be seen theatrically in Philadelphia. Not only will the theater program an array of highly anticipated new films along with repertory cinema not widely available in the city, but it will also offer educational programs focused on film and filmmakers, designed for students of any age.

The Kickstarter expires in a month.
