Jon Papelbon on Phillies: “I Haven’t Seen Any Leadership”

If nothing else, Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is an expert on baseball teams with no leadership. (He left the Red Sox just a couple months after beer-and-chickengate.) So he is perhaps to be believed when he says that “Since I’ve been here, I haven’t seen any leadership.”

Charlie Manuel, who appears not to have heard the comments, made Papelbon out to be a bashful little guy who would do well to speak up more often: “[Papelbon] won’t tell you because he’s a little stubborn in some ways,” Manuel said. “But I think he expected us to play better, he expected us to win more games.” Yeah, no, Pap got the message across loud and clear.
