Bright Spot for Lowly Sixers: Jrue Holiday’s an All-Star

Jrue Holiday will back up Boston’s Rajon Rondo at the point during this year’s NBA All-Star game in Houston. Holiday’s All-Star selection is only the second in the last six years for the Sixers, who sent Andre Iguodala to the show last year. Holiday’s much younger (22 to 26) and more raw than Rondo, who’s got a ring, but there’s a case to be made that he actually deserves to be starting.

Holiday: 19 PPG, 9 APG, 4.2 RPG, 45.4 FG %, 82.2 FT%, 18.90 PER

Rondo: 13.7 PPG, 11.1 APG, 5.4 RPG, 48.5 FG%, 64.5 FT%, 18.57 PER

PER, for those of you not sabermetrically-inclined, is a ranking that determines the minute-by-minute efficiency, or value, of a player. Clearly, these guys are close, and Holiday has a little less to work with, in terms of his supporting cast. [Inquirer]
