Were Penn B-Ballers Suspended for Drinking?

When five Penn basketball players were suspended for the team’s Dec. 21 game against Delaware, it was reportedly for failing drug tests. But the nature of the suspension (one game) suggests the infractions weren’t all that serious. Indeed, a couple sources told the Daily Pennsylvanian that the charge was in fact for drinking. And if a student-athlete is caught drinking, according to the NCAA list of banned drugs (booze technically being a banned drug), it’s up to the school to punish him. Well, what did you expect Penn to do? The school is becoming such an alcohol desert that responsible mother and Philly Mag Senior Editor Sandy Hingston has gone so far as to suggest her Penn student daughter skip town for her Ph.D. [Daily Pennsylvanian]
