Home News: Philly Mag Buys Social Media Firm

At least in journalism, the times, they are a-changin’. Metrocorp, the parent company of Philadelphia and Boston magazines, has acquired a majority stake in Slice Communications LLC, a decorated local social media and communications firm. “A significant portion of our web traffic is driven by social media now,” said David H. Lipson, president of Metrocorp. “We view that this partnership will help us further engage and develop our community utilizing the strategy, insights, and analytic tools that Slice brings.” Slice’s partners will keep a significant stake in the agency, which will oversee social media for Metrocorp’s print and digital editions. Earlier this year, Slice received two “Social Media Stars” awards from the Philadelphia Business Journal, for the innovative promotions its pulled off with BBQ Guru and Spark Energy. It’s also recently worked with Metrocorp’s Be Well Philly brand to crown the area’s “health hero.” Slice will be based in Metrocorp’s Philadelphia office, while working with the Boston team as well.
