Soccer Hooligans Injure Three Swarthmore Students in Rome

Three Swarthmore College students visiting Rome this weekend found out the hard way that Italians take their soccer way too seriously. Nicholas Burnett, Nick Constantino, and Zachary Schaffer were visiting a pub, The Drunken Ship, when it was set upon by “dozens of hooligans wielding cobblestones, knives and metal rods” aiming to inflict pain on fans of England’s visiting Tottenham team. The three men are recovering from their injuries, however. “We are deeply relieved and grateful that our students are all recovering well and we look forward to welcoming them back to campus next semester,” said Liz Braun, Swarthmore’s dean of students. “I can’t believe Italian soccer fans are so violent!” said no one, ever.
