White Powder in Mail at Municipal Services Building [UPDATED]

If you’re trying to drive anywhere near City Hall right now, good luck. In addition to the usual chaos of Friday afternoon traffic, the Mayor is holding a press conference on the apron of City Hall about the impending Frankenstorm. Meanwhile, all sorts of firetrucks and hazmat people are out at the Municipal Services Building (aka the building where someone yarn bombed the Frank Rizzo statue with a pink bikini the other day) across the street at 1401 JFK Boulevard. According to a Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson, “Someone got mail with white powder in it.” What is this, 1992?

UPDATE 10/26 4:23pm: It turns out the white powder was not anthrax but “fire extinguisher powder”, say police.
