Philly’s Finally Getting a Joe Frazier Statue

In what some are calling a long-overdue tribute, it appears that  the legendary Joe Frazier will finally get proper posthumous praise in the form of a statue near the Xfinity Live! complex sometime next year. Of course, the “official announcement” won’t come until next week, but FrazierStatue.com–which reportedly will feature a chance to donate money to the cause–will launch Friday. What’s more, all this statue talk is in addition to the push to have Frazier’s former gym on North Broad, now (sadly) a furniture store, named a historic site. Frazier passed away last November at 67 due to complications stemming from liver cancer, not living to see the city celebrate his legacy. Isn’t it time that we became more than a one-boxer-statue town? [Philly.com]
