Lots of White People Have Moved to Northern Liberties

A recent analysis from Michael J. Petrilli of the Fordham Institute takes a look at the fastest-gentrifying neighborhoods in America based on the increase in the share of the population made up of white people within a zip code. The only Philadelphia neighborhood that cracked the list of 25 was the Northern Liberties/Fishtown area, which saw the share of the population comprised of white people jump from 24.7 to 45.6 between 2000 and 2010. A lot of that “gentrification” can probably be attributed to Bart Blatstein’s grand experiment known as the Piazza at Schmidt’s. Though, we doubt many of the NoLibs locals are itching to thank him for it any time soon.
