SEPTA Bus Crashes Into Monk’s Cafe. A bus involved in a collision with a DRPA police SUV smashed into Monk’s on 16th Street at 2:15 a.m. A side wall of the restaurant was destroyed, and at least eight people were displaced from the apartments above the restaurant. No word on whether any beer was lost. [Philly.com]

You’re Not the Only One Who’s Feeling Poor. Personal income in the Philadelphia region fell .8 percent last year, which was less than the national average. The average personal income in the Philly area in 2009 was $45,565. [Business Journal]

City’s Unemployment Rate Nears 12%. That’s the highest in the region. Chester County had the lowest unemployment rate in June, at 7.3 percent. [Business Journal]

Rendell: Many Republicans “Are Nuts.” The Guv was on MSNBC talking about the new proposal to repeal the 14th Amendment (which makes anyone born in the U.S. a citizen). Ed called repealing the amendment  “cuckoo” and questioned the mental stability of many in the GOP. [Politico]

Campbell Soup Heiress Is Victim of Extortion Attempt. Chester County’s Mary Alice Malone is worth more than $2.2 billion. Authorities say her caterer tried to extort money from her with a thinly veiled novel that would prove embarrassing to Malone. Amazing — this same thing happened to The Scoop just last week.
