Founded as the Anti-Graffiti Network, Jane Golden’s groovy brainchild tackled the rampant defacing of public buildings by harnessing the raw talent of the street artists inflicting the damage, in effect banking that it could turn vandals into van Goghs. Some 2,800 murals later, it largely has, not only providing some of our most evocative public art, but exporting to cities around the U.S. an urban renewal program that actually works.
