MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Roughly 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.5 million people worldwide suffer from multiple sclerosis, a complicated disease that attacks the central nervous system. Scientists still grapple over the disease’s cause. It is unpredictable, as it often fluctuates between exacerbations and remissions, and affects each patient differently. Though the disease is chronic and incurable, medications are available to reduce the severity of the disease and slow its progression, enabling most patients to have near-normal life expectancies.
