MACULAR DEGENERATION

Macular degeneration, a chronic eye disease marked by deterioration of the tissue responsible for central vision, is the leading cause of vision loss in adults ages 60 and older. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that as many as 9.1 million people will have age-related macular degeneration by 2010, and 17.8 million people will have the condition by 2050.
