More than 4 million Americans are currently living with dementia, a series of symptoms that add up to a progressive decline of cognitive abilities, including a loss of reasoning and difficulty with memory. While dementia affects only about one percent of people between the ages 60-64, it affects approximately 30 to 50 percent of people over the age of 85, and it is the leading cause for institutionalization among the elderly.
