YOU WANT TO ... LEARN BALLET — AND GET LONG, LEAN, AND GRACEFUL
THE INSTRUCTOR: Kip Martin, Symmetry Dance Wellness (Center City)

WHAT TO EXPECT: Pilates moves woven into ballet routines. Martin, a long-time instructor of adult dance, created Bale'ates after hearing the regular Pilates buzzwords — “core-strengthening,” “the Hundred” — floating around his studio. “It’s complementary to what people are already experiencing in my ballet classes,” says Martin, who runs students through mat moves to strengthen core muscles.

WHY IT WORKS: The Pilates moves follow you onto the dance floor, so you’re constantly toning your core.

FREE ADVICE: Do workouts that you actually enjoy. “People are always trying to distract themselves from the idea that they are exercising, but dancing and ballet classes, where you are purposefully doing it and enjoying it, provide added benefit,” says Martin.

DETAILS: Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings, $14/group session, private sessions also available. 2013 Samson Street, 267-269-5986, dancewellness.com
