Trans Awareness Week Officially Kicks Off: Here’s a Full Lineup Of Events

Organizers hope to raise the visibility of trans and gender non-conforming people.

In what has now become a tradition, the Trans Equity Project, a group within GALAEI, is kicking off its Trans Awareness Week. A part of a nationwide gathering, Transgender Awareness Week is geared toward raising the visibility of trans and gender non-conforming people while addressing the issues those groups face.

Here’s a full lineup of events that are open to all community members, regardless of gender identity or expression. All events, unless listed otherwise, will be held at GALAEI (149 W. Susquehanna Avenue):

Tuesday, Nov. 14th, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Opening Reception & Trans Youth Panel.

Wednesday, Nov. 15th, 5 p.m. – 8p.m.: Clothing Drive: Donate, Swap or Just Fill A Bag! Clothes are reserved for trans and gender non-conforming (GNC) individuals.

Thursday, Nov 16th, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Trans Cinema: “Pay It No Mind: The Life and Times of Marsha P. Johnson” and “Sylvia Rivera: Trans Movement.” These are film screenings and a Trans Equity Project fundraiser.

Friday, Nov. 17th, 5 p.m – 8 p.m: Dinner & A Documentary: “ANGEL.” This is a screening of the documentary by Sebastiano d’Ayala Valva and a Trans Equity Project Fundraiser; dinner provided by Raysor’s Cuisine.

Saturday, Nov. 18th, 1 p.m – 4 p.m: Buy Trans Marketplace: Local Trans & GNC vendor event. This highlights trans and gender non-conforming small businesses, entrepreneurs and start-up leaders.

Sunday, Nov. 19th, 1 p.m – 4 p.m: TMAN Visitor’s Group.

Monday, Nov. 20th, 4:30 p.m.: Not One More, Rally & Silent March. Located at the Philadelphia’s D.A. Office, 3 South Penn Square.
