SNEAK PEEK: New Philadelphia LGBT Pride Flag to Be Unveiled This Sunday

This Sunday is a big gay celebration for Philadelphia: Besides the notorious OutFest in the Gayborhood, the City’s annual LGBT Flag Raising Ceremony will take place, and a special new rainbow flag will be unveiled.

We got a sneak peek of the specially designed banner which the City’s Director of LGBT Affairs, Nellie Fitzpatrick, posted on Facebook. It’s being billed as “a true representation of the City and LGBT community being one,” since the flag features the seal of the City of Philadelphia.

The flag will have its official unveiling this Sunday, October 11 at 11:30 am at Philadelphia City Hall. The ceremony will hosted by Mayor Michael Nutter, the City of Philadelphia Office of LGBT Affairs, and the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations.

In addition to OutFest and the flag raising, a mural in honor of Gloria Casarez, the late LGBT civil rights leader, will be dedicated on Sunday starting at 1 pm at the 12th Street Gym.
