Laverne Cox First Trans Woman Featured as a Madame Tussauds Statue

If you’ve never been to a Madame Tussauds, this might entice you: Multi-talented Laverne Cox is set to be transformed into one of the museum’s iconic wax statues. She will be the first trans person ever to be featured as artwork at the iconic tourist attraction in San Francisco, home to other celebrity look-alike wax figures that are eerily similar to the real thing.

The unveiling of Ms. Cox’s statue isn’t until June 26th (although the fierce shot of her above would be pretty cool captured in wax), which will precede San Francisco’s pride celebrations. The Mirror reports that Ms. Cox is thrilled to be featured in the museum’s growing collection of well-known celebrities:

“Laverne has commented on the waxwork and admitted she was proud to be part of the ‘legacy’ of Madame Tussauds.

She said: ‘I am so deeply honoured to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy. I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.'”
