Philadelphia FIGHT’s Youth Health Empowerment Project (Y-HEP), an organization that works to reduce the spread of STDs and HIV among Philly youth, is celebrating its 20th year with a ’90s-style fundraiser called, what else, “This Is How You Do It.”

To make sure they set the flashback mood just right, they’ve invited DJ Spinderella to provide the tunes. You probably remember her as one-third of hip-hop group Salt-n-Pepa and their ridiculously catchy biggest hit:

Besides the dancing, drinking and hors-d’oeuvre-ing, Y-HEP will take the opportunity to honor its Founding Director Jacqui Ambrosini (pictured, right) with a special award recognizing her work to create the organization in the early days of the AIDS epidemic. In the years since it has become a “comprehensive adolescent health and sexuality program that offers outreach, healthcare, counseling, therapy and leadership activities to over 3,000 high-risk, low-income youth ages 13 to 24.” Their work has reached many of Philly’s “most vulnerable and disenfranchised youth in Philadelphia, many of whom are sexual minorities, have aged out of foster care, are living in poverty, and struggling with homelessness and substance abuse.”

You can find more information about the event here and buy tickets here. If this isn’t enough of a ’90s fix for you, the other two-thirds of Salt-n-Pepa will perform in town on February 28th at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Cheers for CHOP benefit. More details on that here.

And just because we’re really feeling this old school vibe ….
