WATCH: Songbird Contestant Proposes to His Boyfriend On Stage at Tabu

Songbird: Josh Schonewolf’s Philly singing competition that births local celebrities, a few jaded hearts … and now holy matrimony!

Wednesday night, contestant Robert Alexander took to the stage to sing his song, Rascal Flatt’s “God Bless the Broken Road,” when he stopped in the middle to propose to his boyfriend, Justin Torres. The crowd erupted in cheers and, well, it’s best if Alexander explains:

Justin, had never heard the song before. We talked about getting engaged a lot before, and since he’s not a huge fan of surprises, we decided he would be the one to pop the question. But when I woke up on Tuesday morning, I was rehearsing my song and it just really made something click. It finally dawned on me, “What the hell am I waiting for?” I knew he was the man I wanted to be with for the rest of my life, and I wasn’t going to wait one more day to tell him that. So I got in my car, drove to the jeweler, and bought the ring. No one knew, not my parents, not even my best friends. But I made sure everyone was there that night, telling them that I needed the most fans there to win a prize. When it came my time to perform, I felt like I was going to get sick, faint, or both. I dedicated the song to Justin, looked him in his eyes, and just did it. …

And he said yes!  Check out the video below, but grab a Kleenex first.
