PLAYDAR: Top Model‘s Cory Wade Drops New Dance Single and Video Filled With Philly Drag Queens

Philly singer/model/actor/drag performer Cory Wade (née Hindorff) made like Beyoncé and dropped a secret single and video last night at midnight. This is the soulful-voiced crooner’s third single this year, but the first that’s tailor made for a gay dancefloor. (Are you listening, DJ Carl Michaels?)

“Pose Down” is an upbeat, club-ready tune that finds the former Top Model contestant giving lessons on how to summon your inner fierce model. The video stars a gaggle of local drag queens, like Mimi Imfurst, who plays Wade’s oh-so-bored teacher’s assistant, and Luna Lavey, Ann Artist and Maria TopCatt (aka Wade’s real-life boyfriend) playing pupils. G Philly even makes a small cameo! (Look at Imfurst’s table at :12!)

Wade tells me he decided to go in a different direction than his past two singles, “I’m Sorry” and “Stay True,” which have a more seductive, neo-soul vibe, because he wanted to put out something that showed the sillier side of his personality. “I wanted to give people something that was more reflective of my real personality; I’m a goofball at heart. It’s also a call for people to be more confident in themselves and to work what they’ve got like it’s an Alexander McQueen gown … even if it’s a garbage bag.”

And he certainly works a garbage bag in the video, along with a whole wardrobe of threads that run the gamut from runway-fabulous to ’80s-punk chic.
