SHAKING OUR HEADS: ESPN Reports on Michael Sam’s Showering Habits

It is one of those moments that’s leaving us shaking our heads: ESPN’s coverage of Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL player, has reverted to an utterly important topic: how he is taking his showers while in training camp.

The television clip from Sports Center, which we have below, features reporter Josina Anderson explaining how other players are reacting to Sam. Apparently, Sam is “respecting their space” and, according to a player, Sam is “waiting to take a shower as not to make his teammates feel uncomfortable.” Anderson continues her report in a rather matter-of-fact tone, claiming that others players “aren’t tracking” when Sam takes a shower (perhaps ESPN shouldn’t be tracking this, either…just a thought). There’s also discussion about whether or not Sam has played well enough to make the final roster on the Rams.

First of all, the guy is in a committed relationship. Second, Gay/Straight men shower together all the time and everyone knows it. Third, the whole issue is like little girls giggling in second grade. Grow up. Seriously.

I totally agree with you. AND considering what his boyfriend looks like, I doubt football players are his type. And why would he waste his time chasing straight boys. In the shower no less. I think this is about two things:
#1 Either the “straight” boys are afraid they will be attracted to HIM, or
#2 they are afraid he will not find THEM attractive
