Every hump day, a Philly woman shares her local picks for Woman Crush Wednesday. Today, Evan, a blogger at 2 Queer Brown Jawns, and self-described consultant, educator, historian, advocate, and lover of life.
The following list is comprised of women I admire for a thousand reasons—and y'all should, too.
An incredible advocate and lawyer during the week, and a fantastic woman to know every day— if you're lucky enough to hang with her that much. Ask the recently published author (Reccurence Plot) about Afrofuturism (that Octavia Butler hustle) and prepared to be blown away.
A registered nurse for the Mazzoni Center, and a powerful spirit, this woman makes taking care of your health and heart her prime purpose. She's brilliant, exciting, and has one of the most jovial laughs on the planet. Chat her up about the intersectionalities of identity and faith. Find out what misconceptions happen and learn a lot in the process.
Sharp wit, loving nature, and phenomenal advice-giver, this Philly lawyer is the most fun to spend time with. Equal parts adventurer, explorer, and homebody, every activity is a great time when she is involved. Show her an interior design you were thinking of trying in your living room and watch her eyes light up. (Ask her about setting a mood, yo.)
Samantha Jo Dato
This woman spends her every day single-handedly advocating for the trans* community and organizing Philadelphia's Trans-Health Conference. Bubbly, vivacious, smart, and driven, don't sleep on her personality or them fierce outfits. She also must have the most incredible eyebrows in the city, for real.
This Southern transplant to the City of Brotherly Love is most definitely a gift to the community-at-large. An immensely talented and accomplished artist with swag on a hundred, she is soft spoken with fire in her eyes. A lover of all things food- and adventure-driven, coax her out onto the scene and she will dance all night, bringing any party to life.
It would be remiss to do a list without including this tenacious diva and my other half. All educator, attitude, cunning, and class, this woman stomps runways instead of streets. Catch her teaching kids about sexual health and empowerment, then dancing, kicking, or punching at any number of fight gyms and dance studios. (Her bite is as bad as her bark.)
