DO THIS: “A Very Tabu Prom” Promises Queens, Kings, and Fun

A Very Tabu Prom

A Very Tabu Prom

It’s the prom that you always dreamed of, but without all of that awkward adolescent acne, braces and slow dancing.

Intrigued? Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar hopes so. They will be hosting an upscale-style adult prom on May 31, 2014 starting at 8PM. Appropriately dubbed A Very Tabu Prom, guests are encouraged to come wearing their best black-tie regalia for a good cause—a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Attic Youth Center, Philadelphia’s premier LGBTQ adolescence resource center.

“It’s going to be a glamorous night for the entire community to mingle and make memories,” said event producer Ashley Coleman. The event will include dancing, libations, and light hor d’oeuvres, and what prom would be complete without some royalty? Guests will have the chance to vote for their favorite Gaybohood prom king and queen who will receive fabulous prizes. And speaking of “kings,” the prom is the official after party for the Philly Drag King Competition.

Another good thing about this prom is the itty-bitty price: only $8 if you purchase tickets ahead of time and $12 at the door.

And while I can’t promise that there won’t be any Carrie-style reenactments, let’s face it: at a gay prom, if a queen’s dress was stained, they’d do a lot worse than Carrie ever did in the Steven King film!

Tabu is located at 200 S. 12th Street, Philadelphia. To purchase tickets, click here.
