National Give OUT Day to Benefit Local LGBT Nonprofits

The first-ever event will benefit over 400 LGBTQ orgs across the country, but let’s not forget about the handful from Philly.

UPDATE [5-16-2014, 3:12 p.m.]: Due to website troubles, National Give OUT Day has been extended for one more day, so give, give, give to our participating local LGBT organizations. See a list of them below.

give out dayToday is the second-annual Give OUT Day, a national, 24-hour campaign that rallies donors for LGBTQ-specific causes. The host of the event, Bolder Giving, projects that millions will be raised for up to 400 organizations across the country — places like the HRC, GLSEN and The Victory Fund. Now, there’s no denying that all of those are extremely wonderful and worthy causes, but, naturally, we’d like to see some of our local organizations rack up some serious cash, too.

By doing a simple search on the Give OUT Day site, I found several statewide non-profits set up to receive donations. Here they are (with links to their giving pages.):

  1. PFLAG Philadelphia
  2. ACLU of Pennsylvania
  3. Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition
  4. William Way Community Center
  5. Attic Youth Center
  6. Dignity Philadephia
  7. Equality Advocates Pennsylvania
  8. Progressive Pennsylvania for the Holidays

The campaign is going on now, and lasts through midnight. To give, search for your favorite organization here. Additional cash prizes of up to $5,000 will be given to the groups that raise the most money, so let's try to push our local outfits to the top.
