BIGOT WATCH: PA Rep. Gordon Denlinger Wants to Pass a Bill That Would Legalize Gay Discrimination

gordon denlinger bigotWhile we all wait on bated breath to see if Arizona Governor Jan Brewer will veto that terrible bill that would allow businesses to discriminate against LGBT people, there’s something similar brewing in Pennsylvania that we should keep our eyes on.

Lancaster County Representative Gordon Denlinger has proposed the Freedom of Conscience Amendment, which, according to Philly.com, says  “employers, store owners, realtors, motel managers, etc., could deny jobs, groceries, homes or rooms to anyone (tall, short, pregnant, Catholic, Jewish, gay, Goth, Democrat, newspaper columnist) offending their beliefs. Just as long as those beliefs are ‘sincerely held.’”

To stop this proposal from gaining ground, MoveOn.org has started a petition that will be delivered to Rep. Denlinger and The Pennsylvania State House. At post time, there were 3,415 signatures, and 4,000 are needed before it can be sent. Click here to add your name. A move like this would be devastating, a terrible backtrack on our route to equality. Let’s make sure it doesn’t happen.

why should some gay person force there way of life on to somebodies religous belief? its moraly and ethicaly wrong! If you want your dang cake made or something done take it to a business that will do it insead of suing the one that refuses! what is so difficult about it?I am so sick and tired of these flamers forcing there way of life, there rules, there way onto society . they have ruined the morals that our country was founded on

please tell me this comment is a joke.

What people do in the privacy of their own home has literally no impact on you, your family, or your business.

The fact that there are actually people out there that feel so threatened by another person’s sexuality that they would go so far as to refuse them service is pretty insane. The fact that a politician would attempt to legalize discrimination, let alone in a bill that has the word “freedom” in its name, is completely absurd.

He’s a racist and bigot whose only job is to troll the site and leave his filth. Fortunately, our most people in this country do have the right side when it comes to values and that’s why we continue to move forward to a more perfect, and more inclusive, union. Heck, we even let the idiots, racists and bigots in.

Should it be called “Freedom FROM Conscience Amendment”? No one with a conscience would ever support something so heinous.
