Co-Founder Kevin Parker

In partnership with Philadelphia Black Gay Pride, every day throughout the month of February we will spotlight an influential black mover and shaker in the city.

Today: Kevin Parker, the stylish co-founder of Philadelphia Fashion Week, which, coincidentally, kicks off this month. In addition to that project, Kevin Parker’s new venture for 2014 is Renee Philadelphia International, a full-service creative/modeling agency in Center City.

lgbt black history month kevin parkerWhat's your Philly connection?
I was born and raised in the city of Camden, N.J., where I attended the Creative and Performing Arts High School. From there I went on to attend University of the Arts in Philadelphia to study dancing. That's where my life began!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A model, actor, dancer and designer. Honestly, I just wanted to live in the arts.

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
God. It's because of him I feel like I can conquer anything.

Finish this sentence: I feel fiercest when ...
... I am in the midst of my production of Philadelphia Fashion Week: The energy is amazing, the designers are breath-taking, the models are stunning and people are in awe about the events. It's a great feeling when it's all over and people let you know they were inspired by what you did.

What’s your proudest achievement?
When my business partner, Kerry Scott, and I were listed in the Philadelphia Inquirer as two of the 25 Philadelphia fashion icons. Being called a visionary and still being in my 20s says I am doing something right.

If you could have a super power, what would it be and how would you use it?
I would want the power of filling people's hearts with love and I would spread it worldwide.

Finish this sentence: In 10 years I ...
... see myself being a top international stylist, event producer and designer. I want to have a creative agency in every major city.
