Only Three Days Left to Nominate a Delaware Valley Legacy Fund HERO

The Delaware Valley Legacy Fund (DVLF) is accepting nominations for its eighth-annual HEROES awards, which will be doled out at a ceremony on March 30. DVLF is looking for individuals in the community “whose work and leadership advances the rights of the LGBT community.” It can be anyone — from young people to non-profit businesses to straight allies who “act with selfless intention, are admired for their integrity, and are regarded as courageous in advancing the equality of the LGBT community in the Delaware Valley and beyond.”

Last year’s winners included Philly Pride‘s Franny Price (Individual HERO), U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy (Straight Ally HERO) and the Rossi Wellness Center (Business/Corporation HERO).

So who do you think should be up for it this year? Who made a big difference in 2013? We gave GALAEI Executive Director Elicia Gonzales our Best of the Gayborhood and Beyond Hero Award. She’d be a great choice for Individual HERO. How about D. Bruce Hanes for Straight Ally HERO? The renowned register of wills made quite a splash when he legalized same-sex marriage in Montgomery County last year. There’s also Rev. Frank Schaefer, the pastor who was recently defrocked by the Methodist Church for officiating the marriage of his gay son. He’s been all over the place promoting equality. He’d be a worthy Straight Ally recipient, too.

So many great choices, but so little time. The deadline for nominations is Fri., Jan. 31. To put in your two cents, fill out this nomination form and email it back to DVLF. Stay tuned to G Philly for the announcement of this year’s lucky winners.
