Today marks the 10th anniversary of Visit Philadelphia‘s cleverly named “Philadelphia: Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay” campaign, a project that Director of Public Relations Bruce Yelk says took Philly from an unranked position on Community Marketing’s “Top 10 U.S. Destinations for the LGBT Traveler” list to a solid No. 10. Not so shabby, huh?
Here’s a brief look back at some of the ad campaigns that includes the first almost vintage-looking flyers with Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross (above), and the 2004 TV spot “Pen Pals” that Yelk says made “Philadelphia the first U.S. destination to produce a TV commercial for the LGBT traveler. The list finishes up, of course, with the most recent television ad with Miss Richfield 1981. Enjoy your walk down memory lane!
