Brian Sims Makes Out100 List

Our openly gay State Representative Brian Sims was just named in Out magazine’s annual Out100 list. Here’s what the editors had to say about him:

“Pennsylvania was the largest U.S. state never to elect an out LGBT legislator, until Sims changed that. A Democratic representative in the state’s General Assembly, he says his dream is simple: ‘Pennsylvania doesn’t have a single LGBT civil rights law, and I want to ensure we’re protecting all our citizens.'”

Sims has had quite a year. He recently introduced the Pennsylvania Marriage Equality Act, which would amend Title 23 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to define marriage as “a civil contract between two people who enter into matrimony.” He is also working hard to gather supporters for HB300, Pennsylvania’s version of ENDA that would “ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression statewide in employment, housing, credit and public accommodations.”
