LGBT Six-Word Memoir of the Day: Van Nguyen

In partnership with SMITH Magazine’s Six-Word Memoir Project, we asked you to submit your queer life stories—succinctly. Every day until we run out, we will present the most touching, poignant and hilarious entries in meme form.

Today, Philly activist and educator Van Nguyen, who, just this year, made This Is H.O.W. and We Happy Trans‘s national Trans 100 list for the work she’s done in town to raise awareness about transgender issues. When she’s not teaching or protesting, Van performs with the Liberty City Kings Drag and Burlesque troupe (LiCK). They just so happen to have a busy weekend ahead, so if you want to catch her in action they’ll be at Penn City Roller Derby’s Knock Down, Drag Out! on Friday in West Philly; and at Tabu on Saturday, where LiCK is throwing a food-themed Queer and Kinky Cabaret.
