SAVE THE DATE: Philly Gay Adventure Trips in August

From a party bus ride to Rehoboth to an all-male boat party, here are four upcoming LGBT excursions happening in August.

Sure, summer in the Gayborhood can one fab evening after another, but sometimes you need to get the hell out of dodge for a little gay adventure time. Here, I round up four upcoming get-out-of-the-bar excursions that’ll give you a chance to escape the mundane and meet a new crop of folks that probably rarely pass the thresholds at Woody’s or iCandy.

Martha Graham Cracker at Joe’s Pub
About time for a getaway to NYC? This may be the weekend to do it — especially if you listen to Time Out New York. The magazine and blog just named Martha Graham Cracker’s upcoming gig at Joe’s Pub one of the “Best Things to Do This Week.” I’m sure they’re going off her debut there in January, which was a glittering sell-out success. (P.S. Next Thursday, Miss Graham Cracker will celebrate the eighth anniversary of her monthly show at L’Etage.) Sat., Aug. 3, 11:30 p.m., $20, Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St., New York City, joespub.com.

Gay Community Night at the Phillies
This summer marks the 11th year for Gay Community Night at the Phillies, an annual gathering of LGBT folks at Citizens Bank Park. To celebrate the milestone, local lawyer and Gay and Lesbian Lawyers of Philadelphia (Gallop) Chair Angela Giampolo has been asked to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. But supposedly that’s only going to happen if 500 tickets are sold. Shouldn’t be a problem, because year after year tickets sell out like crazy. Better hustle to reserve your spot. Wed., Aug. 7, 7 p.m., $20-$25, Citizens Bank Park, phillygaydays.com.

Gay Trip to the Zoo
Qventures, Philly Gay Calendar creator Steve McCann’s group that specializes in fun, gay adventure trips, is going to the Philadelphia Zoo on August 25. More details coming soon via the group’s Facebook page. And while we’re on the subject of Steve McCann, the guy has been working his arse off to put together this year’s massive Boys of Summer bash. Stay tuned to G Philly for more on that, but for now, check out the list of events, which includes an extremely adventurous all-boy boat party.

The Gayborhood Goes to Rehoboth
Though some say local events producer (and, full disclosure, occasional G Philly contributor) Josh Schonewolf is pulling himself too thin, you’ve got to credit the guy for coming up with some pretty solid ideas. Ratchet, his weekly open-bar party at Tabu, has become a gay household name — a version of it even popped up in Rehoboth over the weekend — and Bearlesque is, if nothing else, the rowdiest celebration of back hair and jock straps this of the Bike Stop. Next on his agenda is The Gayborhood Goes to Rehoboth, a three-night Labor Day-weekend trip from Philly to Rehomo. He’ll be taking people up and carting them back in a party bus, where dinner will be served and a bartender from KNOCK will be slinging drinks. Reminder: If you go, be sure to consult our Ultimate Gay Rehoboth Guide for trip suggestions! Leaves Aug. 30, 6 p.m. and returns on Mon., Sept. 2, 5 p.m., $65, go here for ticket links and location info.
