Playdar: 6 Dance Ditties to Help Escape the Summer Blues

G Philly resident DJ Patrick DeMarco handpicks a slew of dance ditties to jumpstart your July.

Wake up — a new month is upon us! It’s time to nix those summer blues and kick off summer’s fiercest (and debatably hottest) month with an all-new playlist of pulse-racing beats.

Pride festivities, SCOTUS rulings, a Tabu Cazwell appearance, a Cher comeback — June’s going to be a tough one to follow, ladies and gents. But as we kickstart our July playlist, I want to keep those positive vibes rolling well into the second month of Summer 2013, flowing with a track-by-track blow of bangers that will send you straight to the dance floor (or your empty apartment — whatever works) all month long.

And no matter what kind of hard groove you prefer to keep that energy going, I’ve got you covered. The R3hab remix of Cher’s latest, “Woman’s World,” is the perfect beat buffet to indulge in at the club. I’ve also fallen in love with the Ralphi Rosario rework of Rihanna‘s David Guetta-collaborated summer anthem, “Right Now.” And of course, we have my absolute favorite on the list today: the synthfully delicious jam of “Overdose” by krunk-and-B princess, Ciara. The song’s whirling beat — mixed with Ciara’s purring vocals — quickly shot to the top of my summer playlist upon release. (Really, any track about not getting enough of that “D” is always an “A” in my book.)

Whether you’re hitting Sandblast in Asbury Park, N.J., taking part in the Pink Pub Crawl, or just hitting the gay beaches this month, crank up the music and just keep dancing on your own — I promise it’ll keep the summer blues at bay.
