PLAYDAR: Pride Playlist For the ‘It Gets Better’ Generation

G Philly's resident DJ cues up a list of '90s-era tunes that every gay young person should know.

There is nothing I love more than a ’90s dance party — there are so many great songs from that decade. When I hear them now, for better or worse, they transport me back to my awkward teenage years. You know the ones: That seemed-like-it-took-forever blip in time when your voice starts to change, your face gets covered in zits and you begin to notice exciting new things — like the boys in the locker room. In the thick of this shaky time, the songs I’ve curated today gave me hope and the knowledge to realize that everything was going to be OK. So as we all band together this weekend, let’s remember those younger guys and gals who are just beginning to rise up — the ones who will be responsible for keeping the rainbow flags waving for decades to come.

So I  dedicate these tunes to those fabulous newcomers out there. Remember to keep your head up and enjoy the ride. Yes, things will be strange and a little different for a while, but embrace who you are and love who you will become, because, trust me, this is only the beginning of one amazing ride. Everyone have a great weekend!
