Metro Men’s Clothing Wins IBA LGBT Business Award
This afternoon, at a luncheon at the Sofitel Hotel, the Independence Business Alliance (IBA) announced that its annual LGBT Business Award will go to Passyunk men’s fashion boutique Metro Men’s Clothing (MMC).
Before the luncheon, I caught up with the store’s very-excited owner, Tom Longo, who said he will use the $5K prize to amp up the shop’s website, which, up until now only had the capabilities for a one-page design. “This grant will enable MMC to enhance its website capability by developing an online shopping-cart feature,” he says. “The goal is to extend additional services to our existing customers, as well as attract new customers.”
Longo says he opened MMC in 2009, right “in the depths of perhaps the greatest recession the country has ever seen.” The funds he was able to generate for opening were mostly dedicated to his brick-and-mortar shop, leaving the website with something to be desired. Since then, he says customers have approached him about adding a shopping component to the website, but he hasn’t had the resources until now.
Congrats, Tom. We’re looking forward to a serious online MMC shopping spree!
