Do This: The Dumpsta Players Are Looking For a New Prom Queen

The local experimental theater troupe laughs and spits in the face of all of our horrible prom experiences.

WHO: The Dumpsta Players

WHAT: Everyone has their own opinion about prom, but for most of us, looking back at the experience can be a little ick-worthy. Whether it was the fashion, the horrible hangover on cheap vodka or the humiliating search for an opposite-sex date, the whole idea has the makings for one big ol’ gay flop. It’s no surprise, then, that local shit-stirring-and-proud-of-it theater troupe the Dumpsta Players chooses to celebrate it year after year after year. The 17th annual PromTrash Desperate finds mall rats Myrna and Marble having one of the worst prom nights, like, ever. And there’s a mere hint that last year’s runner-up, Margaret Orthodox, may return to reap revenge on 2012 queen Xanadu Xanax. All are welcome to “put on a prom dress, don a tux and compete with the gender-bending drag kings, queens, straight up females and males, fag hags, pretty princesses and assorted other freaks!” Who knows, you just might stagger home with a crown.

WHEN, WHERE AND HOW MUCH: Wed., April 17, 10 p.m., $1.99, Bob and Barbara’s, 1509 South St. Proceeds benefit One Step Away.
