Gay PDA-ers Get a Show of Support in Ohio

A hate crime in Columbus gets turned on its ugly head.

I love starting off the year with inspirational stories — especially when they pertain to us gay folk. I just read this one on Huff Post by Joel Diaz, who was recently harassed for holding hands with his boyfriend while waiting in line for a piece of pizza, at Mikey’s Late Night Slice, in Columbus, Ohio. The asshole in question started shouting at them to cut their “gay shit” out, and before Diaz-plus-one knew what was happening, others standing in the queue called the hate-speech spouter to task. The employees at Mikey’s even went so far as to halt business to tell the perpetrator that “they support everyone in our community and that he should get out of line because they would not be serving him.”

After the experience, Diaz talked about the experience on his Facebook wall and was blasted by another wave of support when that badboy went viral. It’s a great story — especially given the fact that it takes place in a state that’s not exactly known for being a bastion for gay rights. The more I see posts like this, the more I’m reminded that we’re moving in the right direction — we just need to keep the uproars going.

Viva la gay!
